My Goal

I am making every step count this February

This February, I am taking part in BrainWalk and walking, jogging or running as far as I can to improve my own health and wellbeing and help save lives!

I am raising money for the Encephalitis Society, a cause close to my heart.
Encephalitis is a neurological condition that can be devastating. Here are five facts you may not know:

1. Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain.

2. It is caused by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain.

3. Anyone can be affected by encephalitis – no matter their age, gender or ethnicity.

4. It has a high death rate and survivors are often left with an acquired brain injury and life-changing consequences.

5. In some cases, encephalitis can impact on mental health, causing difficult to deal with emotions and behaviours, and can lead to thoughts of self-harm and even suicide.

One person is diagnosed with encephalitis every minute across the world, and life for them and their loved ones will never be the same again.

Every donation I receive will go to the Encephalitis Society, helping accelerate understanding and awareness of encephalitis and ensuring that those affected by this serious neurological condition get the crucial help and support they need. Please help if you can.

My Updates

For Evie

Monday 23rd Jan

The Encephalitis Society is a small charity with big impacts, it is a charity that is incredibly close to my heart and has been since we discovered in April 2021 that my mam Evie was suffering with Encephalitis.

The day we were told by a consultant what the diagnosis was, I remember hearing the word Encephalitis thinking “what’s that?” this was after two weeks of my mam being in hospital with numerous tests being done and no visitors allowed due to covid restrictions.

During this time my mam lost her speech, struggled to remember basic information, feed herself, or complete any day-to-day task. She stayed in hospital for a further four weeks undergoing more tests and treatments but A seizure which was triggered by the infection left her in a bad way and we as a family are so grateful to the fantastic NHS for saving her life.

Once discharged from hospital, the resources were very few and far between which is when we turned to the Encephalitis society for help.

We were clueless on where to begin and this amazing charity helped so much with information, guidance, support.

Encephalitis is a life changing illness; it effects so many families all over the world. We can’t thank the Encephalitis society enough for all their support and very much look forward to helping raise awareness and money for such a fantastic charity!
