My Goal

Reasons why I am raising money

Last night I watched some videos done by fellow AE survivors (of all ages) and am struck by just how long their "recovery" is. But as the scarring results in it also being an 'acquired brain injury,' recovery is the wrong word...I don't know what is. One young guy who had it when he was 16 and didn't get to go to university, reported how many friends just "moved on" and how his life was "put on hold," for six years while he 'recovered' sufficiently to go as an adult student. I was struck by that timeframe as I'm only 4 years in. So today I have accessed further 1:1 counselling support for myself...which I think is required. I'm also having EMDR therapy and am part of an online Functional Seizure (FS) Group Programme for a short while. I will say it a million times - invisible mental health issues are a damned serious business. And assumptions like "you look fine," or "you should be over it by now" are just about the farthest thing from sensitive imaginable. We cannot tell, or predict what such illnesses do to each individuals 'Inner World.' I for one have/had no recollection of some of my early behaviours at all...and people need to tell me. Luckily my close friend Lisa does...and for that I am grateful and at times very humbled also.

My Updates

Nearly there now...

Sunday 26th Feb
Okay. I have only two days left of my whole month of running, walking, swimming and cycling 10km as a minimum every day. It has been hard as the weather is not exactly tempting or helpful at all. It sure could have been worse though. I am glad it is at the end now. It is time for me to rest I think. And maybe rethink were (or if) I am going in my life. The shirt says it all. X

World Encephalitis Day

Wednesday 22nd Feb
Well, the day has come and still way, way too few people know about it, or have heard about Encephalitis!? It is hard to know what to do. I am in bright red, but a lone voice out here in the dark. Will keep pushing forwards trying to raise awareness. It seems ironic and rather uncomfortable that most of my friends, contacts and ex-colleagues only know about it because they know/knew a sufferer. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be left utterly alone to deal with something like this. Anyways - a BIG Thank You to anyone who has donated and supported me in this endeavour and good luck to everyone out there who is doing something for the cause.

Start of BrainWalk

Tuesday 3rd Jan
Okay...I'm right at the start of setting up the sponsorship page, and working towards getting fit enough to do a huge amount of walking/running throughout February. Hoping that you will read this and donate any amount possible (no matter how small), towards supporting a disease that has no real profile, and for most people is unheard of. The statistics around the world show it to be a real killer however. I know just how huge the impact has been for me and I was "lucky" in my recovery but the invisible challenges are there every single day. Please donate. It's all I ask.

Thank you to my Sponsors
