My Goal

I am making every step count this February

This February, I am taking part in BrainWalk and walking, jogging or running as far as I can to improve my own health and wellbeing and help save lives!

I am raising money for the Encephalitis Society, a cause close to my heart.
Encephalitis is a neurological condition that can be devastating. Here are five facts you may not know:

1. Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain.

2. It is caused by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain.

3. Anyone can be affected by encephalitis – no matter their age, gender or ethnicity.

4. It has a high death rate and survivors are often left with an acquired brain injury and life-changing consequences.

5. In some cases, encephalitis can impact on mental health, causing difficult to deal with emotions and behaviours, and can lead to thoughts of self-harm and even suicide.

One person is diagnosed with encephalitis every minute across the world, and life for them and their loved ones will never be the same again.

Every donation I receive will go to the Encephalitis Society, helping accelerate understanding and awareness of encephalitis and ensuring that those affected by this serious neurological condition get the crucial help and support they need. Please help if you can.

My Updates

It’s me!!

Friday 3rd Feb
I got autoimmune encephalitis. Now unfortunately I don’t remember anything. But from what I’ve been told, I got quite sick. I was having seizures, hallucinating, didn’t recognise anyone. Not even my 3 daughters, which broke their hearts. I kept pulling out my cannulas., I even went through a very angry stage and went for my brother. The problem was the hospital still didn’t know what was wrong with me, was it possibly meningitis, or did I need to go into the nearest mental health hospital? All the while I was getting worse. I had a spinal tap which was sent to Oxford somewhere. And I had a ct scan and an mri scan at this point. I still couldn’t remember anything or my children. My mum told me I didn’t know I had children and thought I was in my 20s, I would’ve been about 36, 37. Anyway the results finally came back showing encephalitis! I still think to this day that if they’d diagnosed me quicker I wouldn’t have had as much damage done to my brain! It really upsets me. I’ve now got epilepsy, memory issues. Just to name a few! But hey, I’m alive, and I now have 2 beautiful grandchildren that I adore.
